Computer Laptop and Tablet with Forensic SOP Crash Course Curriculum and Checklist

Listen, I know the roller-coaster of emotions you're probably experiencing - especially if you're new to writing SOPs!

I had those same frustrations myself. As a matter of fact, I had to write SOPs from scratch during a time when there really weren't any agencies or resources I could utilize for guidance.

But there are more resources now than ever before, and we've compiled them all in one place so it's easily accessible and you don't have to waste your valuable time searching the Internet!

My SOP writing strategy includes:

  • Developing an SOP Team (that's right, this isn't something you should try to do on your own!)
  • Assessing what procedures need to be written
  • Creating an SOP template
  • Referring to scientific standards while outlining procedures
  • ...and more!

I provide you with all the details AND additional resources!

I have also been a board member for the Scientific Working Group for Shoeprint and Tire Tread Evidence (SWGTREAD), where I was responsible for establishing and reviewing scientific standards.

⍰ Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have any prior experience with writing SOPs before I take this course?
No, we break everything down to make it easy even if you're a beginner!

Our lab already has established SOPs - is this course still for me?
Depends! How long has it been since your SOPs have been updated? Also, take a closer look at what you have. Many Forensic Units believe they operate with SOPs, but what they actually have are generalized policies. If your SOPs are outdated or you're unsure how to distinguish between a policy and procedure - then this course might be a good fit for you!

What if my lab has multiple disciplines (i.e. Crime Scene Unit, Latent Print Unit, Pre-Screening DNA Laboratory, etc.)?
The approach to writing SOPs will be still be same. However, we include links to several resources that covers a variety of different forensic disciplines, so you'll have plenty of examples to reference even if you have writing SOPs for multiple disciplines.

How long will I have access to this eCourse?
You'll have 90 days access to the Forensic SOP Crash Course. This should give you plenty of time to go through each module at your own pace. If you find yourself needing more time, feel free to email us at [email protected] with your reason for needing an extension.

How can I apply my tax exemption certificate to the purchase of this eCourse?
If you or your agency qualifies for a sales tax exemption, you will need to provide Teachable with a tax exemption certificate and submit a refund request to [email protected]. The refund request should include a copy of the purchase receipt showing the sales tax paid and Order ID. Teachable will issue a refund once the documentation has been reviewed and approved (usually takes about 7 days).
